We are a group of disciples who take to heart and are committed to carrying out the Lord’s command in Isaiah 58. “ Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood”… Isaiah 58:6-7.

TESTIMONIALS
While Frankie and I have been Christians and served God in different ways, Alaska was our first mission trip together. We were drawn to serve there with For The Bride Ministries. Seeing the beauty of God’s creation was a drawing point as well. Frankie and I are both “behind the scenes” people. We enjoy serving, preparing, providing for, and taking care of people. Serving the evening meal to the women at Downtown Hope Center’s Shelter and volunteering in their laundry area, preparing lunch for the youth at Covenant House… these opportunities were “right up our alley.” We left feeling fulfilled. The most surprising part for us was how receptive the homeless were to hearing the Word, asking for prayer, and even offering to pray for us. They seemed to truly understand the services we offered as being God-ordained. We were being the hands and feet of Jesus. They were appreciative and grateful… and gave praise and thanks to God for meeting their needs by sending us all the way from Pennsylvania. We commit to return to Alaska and serve there.
When volunteering in the shower house at Downtown Hope Center, I encountered a female client who had come to get a shower and have her clothes laundered. As she came from the shower fresh and clean, I volunteered to French braid her hair; She graciously accepted my offer. As I braided her hair…I shared with her what a truly beautiful woman she was. Her response… "No one has ever said that to me." Through this simple act, through touch… her heart softened and she accepted my offer to pray for her. Honestly, throughout my time in Anchorage… I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that, as we offered a bagged lunch and hot cup of coffee to our friends on the streets… many reciprocated by ministering to us, by praying for us in return for the blessings we had offered them in Jesus’ name. Very humbling, indeed. Many of the homeless continue day after day with smiles on their faces knowing that their needs will be met.
I hate what alcohol does to people who use it in excess and whose lives and families are destroyed because of it. There was once a time I enjoyed a glass of wine. However, after our last trip to Anchorage...I made a very conscious decision that I would not put another drop of alcohol in my mouth. We see what it does to the people we serve on the streets of Anchorage...the people we have grown to love.
